VOTE for EXPERIENCE on Tuesday

Experience is the key word in the up-coming election for Forks Supervisors.

As assistant chairman of the Forks Zoning Hearing Board, I have dealt head on with key issues that affect the future of our township.

At present, the Zoning Hearing Board is hearing the KMRD case. This case is now in its second year before the zoning hearing board. Last month I made the motion to deny KMRD’s request for a continuance—a request that would have halted the hearing indefinitely. My motion passed unanimously.

My years on the Forks Zoning Hearing Board give me invaluable experience that I will carry with me as a Forks Supervisor.

Also, as chairman of the Transportation Committee, I worked with other Forks citizens who realize how rapidly our township is growing. We researched and studied our township’s infrastructure and proposed significant recommendations to be included in our new Comprehensive Plan.

Forks is the second fastest developing community in Pennsylvania. As a supervisor, I will have the necessary experience and know-how to handle this type of growth.

I will apply my experience when I must make important decisions that affect our township.

Your vote for me will be a vote for a secure Forks Township where past unbridled growth will be replaced by balanced growth and better decisions.

On Tuesday, November 6, please vote for me—Bob Egolf.

Forks' Infrastructure

Very shortly the League of Women Voters will publish its Election Guide. Here is a sneak preview of my response to the question that the League asked each candidate.

Question:

WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE MAJOR ISSUE IN THIS CAMPAIGN AND HOW WILL YOU ADDRESS IT?

My Response:

Preserving Forks' infrastructure is the major issue. Imagine Forks when all the 1000 already approved homes are built. Developers want more. Families move in, and school enrollments increase. Roadways are limited and stressed. Water and sewerage expansion is a concern. We will need more fire fighters, police and emergency services. Open space is at risk. I believe in balancing development by upholding zoning codes and comprehensive plans. I will encourage new businesses and light manufacturing.

Candidates had to limit their responses to 75 words. I was able to write my message within the limit. However, I would have liked to write more.

As both the assistant chairman of the Zoning Hearing Board and the chairman of the Transportation Committee, I have had lots of experience dealing with Forks' infrastructure. Recently our township engineer said that Forks is “built out,” and I agree with his description. Because Forks is “built out,” its infrastructure cannot handle any more stress. Our roads, land, and schools are maxed out. As a supervisor, I will devote my energy to finding ways to prevent any more stress on the township we live in and love.

TUESDAY'S MORNING NEWS

On Monday evening at 7:30, the Forks Zoning Hearing Board will meet to discuss primarily KMRD's request that further hearings be continued.  Of all the meetings on this issue, this one is the most important one to attend because what will happen will set the course for future development in Forks.

Be there because you will have an opportunity to hear firsthand what is happening and to voice your opinion at the appropriate time.

Don't wait until Tuesday to read about what happened.  This is not the time to be a Tuesday morning quarterback.

My Campaign Theme

My campaign theme, and one of my own personal themes, is a vision beyond tomorrow. Citizens of Forks Township must embrace this theme because our community is growing faster than we realize. If we do not look beyond tomorrow, we will be overwhelmed by things we do not like or want in our community.

We were aghast when Gary Strausser cut down the stately maples on Old River Road. This happened in August, and a month later we are still feeling the repercussions of this great loss. Now think for a moment about our community as it is today, and then imagine what it might be like if someone desecrated our remaining areas of natural beauty. As I wrote recently in The Morning Call: “The trees disappeared rapidly, and their absence was apparent immediately. Other changes might be slower and much more insidious.”

As Supervisor, I will be vigilant, watching and investigating proposals our community receives for a business, industry, or development. We want to continue to encourage beneficial businesses and industries. We have been successful, but now the speed has increased. Thus we must look beyond tomorrow to visions of the kind of community we want in the future.

Our Supervisors sent the right message when they voted down a proposal for a cell tower in our park and recreation area. This decision is a distinct example of my campaign theme in action!

I want to know your concerns. It’s easy to contact me. This blog is open to you.  Post here or send email to   begolf2007@rcn.com.
